Spank Playlist 2024
The Bigler Bugler is proud to present the first (of many) guest columns. Today, hype man and music columnist Charlie Hurwitz.
SPANK PLAYLIST 2024
As many know, Spank is a team with a raunchy personality. One that doesn’t abide by the rules of society and does what it wants. Thanks to recent funding successes, our musical expression has been aided by a large speaker that we lug around to practices, parties and most importantly, tournaments. As Professor Coach Luke’s newest intern, I wanted to share some of the personality of the team with you wonderful alumni. Here is a collection of a few songs in regular rotation at any Spank event.
Pimpin’ Pennsylvania- Afroman
To start us off hot, Pimpin’ Pennsylvania is not your Grammy’s cookie-baking music. Afroman always does that trick to get us hype whether it is after a flashy score, during sideline banter or on a 506 porch party.
Gypsy Woman- Crystal Waters
Many past, present and maybe even future Spank players are no stranger to some Gypsy Woman. Someone about the trance-like, mystical nature of this song gets asses shaking, feet moving, and spirits high. This is an anthem and when the clock strikes 12, the masses come flocking like a pack of wolves to a weak moose.
Never Been To Spain- TBD
Spank is a team of many debates. Burger or two hot dogs in your cookout tray? Is fish meat? And most importantly, whose version of Never Been To Spain is best??? Could it be Waylon Jennings? Three Dog Night? Elvis? The matter is still in the air but what can be certain is that this sing-along classic will never get old.
Brandy (She’s A Fine Girl)- Looking Glass
Let's be honest, Brandy is the Michael Jordan of songs. Who in the history of human civilization has ever listened to this magnum opus and not fallen into its trance of ethereal, spellbinding ballad. From Coach Luke to Evan Lutz, this is sure to get heads nodding and smiles on faces.
Tinariwen- Group Anmataff
The origins of Tinariwen and its place on the team are completely unbeknownst to me, I am sure some of you Alumni would know much more than I, however, while I do not know why I do it, the hums and jives of this song make many of my teammates and I strip slightly and jiggle our bodies. Just as a bird had the natural instinct to fly, us humans have a genetic inclination to gyrate in a circle when this comes on.
Sultans Of Swing- Dire Straits
Similar to my remarks about Brandy, this is the classic of all classics. Mark Knopfler is a magician and almost 50 years later, his wizardry on the guitar stands true. This one is a jack of all trades in terms of when it is played amongst the team. For pregame warmups, Vegas has it at (-170) to be played and at a party, a staggering (-250). Be sure that many air guitars will be busted out and many heads will bop as they sing at the top of their lungs.
Renegade-Styx
Sometimes, all you have to do to be great is excel at one aspect of your craft. We have seen it with Denis Rodman getting rebounds, Ben Zhu’s media campaigns, and now with Renegade. When we need to raise the energy, there is only one call to be made. (The call is to Styx). As seen in last year’s Callahan video, this song is a free adrenaline booster and never has failed us.
Pump it up- Endor

Feathered Indians- Tyler Childers
Pleasure in life isn’t complicated. You don’t need to buy a yacht and you certainly dont need to have frickin’ kids to be happy. The simple things are sure to do the trick and sometimes, it doesn’t get better than singing along to a banger with all your pals. This is a favorite among Spank to get the wholesome juices flowing.
Rock The Casbah- The Clash
Although my father claims that The Clash sold out by the release of their 1982 album Combat Rock, without debate it was still sure to produce some bangers. Rock The Casbah has been in the regular rotation of Spank outings for a good time now. While it sneakily tells a funny story about a strict ruler in a foreign land that bans music, leading to a revolt, I don’t think many of my teammates care all too much about that. What they do care about is how fun this song is.
